About the Author
Helmut Degen, Ph.D., works as a program manager for Siemens Corporate Research (SCR). He was previously a user experience design lead and senior user experience manager for Vodafone Global Marketing in Dusseldorf, Germany, and for the Siemens User Interface Design center in Munich, Germany.
Xiaowei Yuan, Ph.D., is an expert commissioner of the Standardization Administration of the People's Republic of China, and the founder of ISAR User Interface Design. He was previously head of the Siemens User Interface Design Center, Beijing, China.

Should be titles marketing best practices

This book was a huge disappointment.
I've been a UX practitioner for over a decade and I found the ideas in this book to be outdated, simplistic and at times dead wrong. This book is a great read for someone in a marketing role or an account manager at an ad agency to further "design thinking", but the title is deeply misleading.
It seems like the editor of this book has very little experience in the UX field, but cobble together some articles to capitalize on the rise of the UX field.
If you are looking for some books that actually cover UX Best Practices, take a look at "About Face 3" by Alan Cooper or "Designing for the Digital Age" by Kim Goodwin

UX evolves ....but

No UX best practice book can reflect the current happenings. Therefore, it is almost impossible to give five-star reviews to any best practices book. But, we should not underestimate the value of this book: It is reminding us that we are all facing similar challenges and we can learn from each other. A good UX best practice book gives us a "stopping point" to remember what is important in the field. And I found the content provided in this book quite good. The chapters in this book, whether some may call outdated or not, provide great advice on how to maneuver in the corporate world where UX field is unknown and under-valued. Not all the UX practitioners work at top companies. While understanding the practices described in the chapters, one learns how different the UX processes are implemented in different corporations, how the technology plays a major role in whether some UX principle is implementable or not, how software development methods such as agile development impact the design, and how UX design gets embraced by the corporation.

There are a couple really great anecdotes, and approaches - but overall this book isn't worth the money. I'd recommend reading a few UX blogs.
WARNING: THERE IS MISLEADING INFORMATION IN THIS BOOK. AS WITH ANY BOOK, READERS SHOULD QUESTION THE CONTENT AND TEST HOW WELL IT HOLDS UP TO SCRUTINY; THIS BOOK HAS OUTDATED AND SIMPLY WRONG INFORMATION SCATTERED THROUGHOUT. BE AWARE, IF YOU REFERENCE CERTAIN INFO IN THIS BOOK - MORE EXPERIENCED UX PROFESSIONALS WILL CALL YOU OUT ON IT.
