This book is great
By C. Scaffa
I am only about 25% through the book so far but I am enjoying it greatly. For someone who is pretty unfamiliar with Six Sigma initatives having a book that explains not only Six Sigma but how it can be used for sustainability goals is great. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in integrating Six Sigma and Sustainability.

Sustainability Meets A Business Model
By Richard Daniels
This book is filled with practical tools, templates, approaches and methods that will help any Six Sigma improvement team accelerate their learning and their results. With its unique focus on the opportunities to further global sustainability through the more efficient use of buildings and work spaces, the book is a blueprint for any company looking to both recapture resources and increase their contribution to the cause.
First and foremost, this is a book about business, about the concept of doing more and doing better with less, of better serving customers and of building a brand that everyone in the world can admire and respect. The business goals are put front and center and are ultimately the driving wheel behind any sustainability effort.
The authors have left nothing out, and clearly intended this book to be used as a guide for others in making a larger contribution to the broader goals of sustainability. The chapter on Stakeholder Engagement is worth the price of the book all by itself, not only as it relates to efficient building management but also as it relates to sustaining any significant change effort in any organization. Combined with the detailed review of Business Case development, these two chapters form the foundation for any successful change initiative.
The authors also provide an insightful overview of the role of collaborative management in any significant change, and provide case studies and examples to magnify the keys to making this happen. A memorable set of core principles are woven throughout the text, so instead of a laundry list of things that must be done, the reader is given a memorable recipe of the things that matter most.
A critical point that the authors make sums up their purpose and intent - the greenest building you can attain is the one you don't build. This highlights the need for improved strategies and methods for improving existing facilities, which are all delivered page by page.

Great roadmap for guiding corporate sustainability practices
By craig_bloomfield
This is a great book because it provides real solutions to a problem plaguing most of the corporate world: following through on their "commitment to sustainability".
Back in 2005-2007 CEOs made big promises on how much they would reduce their carbon footprint and engage in sustainable practices, but most of them didn't have the faintest idea how to make good on these promises--the statements were just for show. Over the past five years, we've learned sustainability can lead to benefits like employee productivity and risk mitigation, and a lot of C-level execs now recognize that they should put a real strategy in place to improve their bottom line, not just as a PR stunt. But they don't know how to do it, it costs too much, it can't be measured, they have other priorities, etc. So not much has really changed.
What makes Six Sigma Sustainability great is that it walks you through the development and execution of a real strategy focused on company-wide engagement, measurement and continuous improvement. It's obvious that these guys actually work in the trenches on this stuff and have had some success helping companies.
I've been exposed to Six Sigma before and it can be kind of mind-numbing, but when you apply it to corporate sustainability this way it makes a lot of sense and is not difficult to follow. If you're not a fan of Six Sigma, it helps to think of it generically as "process improvement." Corporate sustainability is a process in need of improvement for sure -- carbon measurement by itself is a fairly involved process and it's just one piece of the puzzle. This book can really put a company on the right course.
