About the Author
Malcolm Plant's interest in electronics began in his school days when he, together with a friend, built radios and gadgets from government surplus electronic equipment. He went on to receive his Masters degree in experimental space physics at Leicester University, where he investigated sensors for use in X-ray telescopes and astronomy. He now works as a university lecturer at Nottingham Trent University.

Bad math but good theory

I like this book because it provides a lot of background information not provided by some other electronics books I have read, but I noticed several math equations are off, which can be REALLY confusing to someone who isn't as good at math as me. One example is when they're explaining scientific notation and powers of ten, they mess up on the exponents which I'll quote here (from page 40)
"Suppose you need to know the current flowing through a component that has a resistance of 3.3 MÙ (3,300,000Ù) when there is a potential difference of 4 V across it. Again, using the equation I = V/R, the resistance can be written as 3.3 * 10^6 Ù, so that I = 4Ù/(3.3*10^6)Ù. Since 1/10^6 = 10^6 [this part should say since 1/10^6=10^(-6)], I = 1.2 * 1/10^(-6) amperes = 1.2 µA [this part should say I = 1.2 * 10^(-6) amperes = 1.2 µA]. Remember that (1/1,000,000 1/10^6) = 0.000001 or 10^(-6) [this part should say Remember that 1/1,000,000 or 1/10^6) = 0.000001 or 10^(-6)]"
